Stranger in the Dark
By Gigi Goodwin. 2023.©

I look at you and I can see that you know me
we are not meant to be passersby, you and me
if it’s not true, after this, I will hold my tongue
but is it so wrong to wonder if you’ll hold me?
our eyes met not just once, were they tricks of the light?
am I crazy? I know it cannot be just me
atomic attraction, stronger than magnetite
heart is open for you, revealing all of me
your unsaid words a balm to soothe my aching heart
I pray that you relinquish, and let them heal me
us, flowers that bloom, when all else has died in fall
will you stay steady in the dark to comfort me
nescient of my desire to be near to you
a language barrier for feelings you give me
you must know your eyes have the power to seduce
I wish that you would wield those powers over me
a fire, a heat, that crackles as we step in it
igniting between us each time you stand near me
barely breathing, oxygen swallowed by heartbeats
my mind is calling for you to act, please hear me
the longer I stand here, the brighter our fire burns
not feeling the pain yet, I watch as you melt me
fate decides whether we stay or combust, unless
you can just hold me right here without burning me
I’ve waited for risks, for Gigi to become me
if you don’t mind scarring, see the beauty in me
